Community Priority 8: From Community Action to City-Wide Impact: Tackling Food Insecurity
Community Priority 8: Building a Stronger, More Resilient Markham together!
Rising living costs and growing food insecurity continue to impact many families in Markham. Since the pandemic, the demand for food assistance has only increased, and too many residents still face difficult choices in silence.
For the past eight years, we have worked with residents, volunteers, and community partners to support the Markham Food Bank and 105 Gibson Centre Food Bank through community-wide food drives. Together, we have proven that when a community comes together, we can make a real difference.
But there is more to do.
My vision is to expand these efforts into ongoing, city-wide initiatives, strengthen partnerships across Markham, raise awareness about food insecurity, and educate the next generation to value food, reduce waste, and care for those in need.
No one in our city should worry about where their next meal will come from.
Your choice. Your voice. Our community. Together, let’s build a stronger, more caring, and hunger-free Markham.
